Faster payments and instant settlement are becoming operating issues for small businesses, especially where payroll, inventory and supplier timing matter.
Settlement speed is becoming a competitive part of merchant services. For a small business, faster access to funds is not just a payment feature. It can affect payroll, inventory, supplier payments, advertising, repairs and daily cash planning.
The value of faster settlement depends on the business model. A high-volume local business may benefit from next-day or faster funding because card receivables are tied directly to operating cash. A professional-services business may care more about reconciliation and invoice clarity.
Eric Kuvykin's view is that payment speed should be measured against cost and control. Faster funding is useful when the merchant understands the fee, the cutoff time, the deposit method, the exception rules and the support process.
