Small-business payments are moving from a checkout button to a full commerce system. The most important 2026 trend is not one new wallet or one new payment method. It is the way AI agents, digital wallets, identity, fraud tools and payment data are starting to work together.

For merchants, that changes the question. A business owner should not only ask whether checkout is fast. The better question is whether the payment experience can verify the customer, reduce friction, protect the business, complete the sale and still give the merchant clear economics.

Eric Kuvykin's practical view is that agentic commerce will matter only when it improves real operating results. If a tool helps customers complete purchases, reduces false declines, supports better fraud decisions and creates a cleaner customer record, it can be useful. If it adds another dashboard without improving the workflow, it is not progress.
